Como Se Dice "time of your life"?

Ciao! I have officially been in San Demetrio Corone for 4 days and I couldn't be happier!

After a 8 hour flight into Rome, a slight panic attack in the airport about our bus, a 7 hour wait for the bus and then a 7 hour drive into the mountains we arrived safe and sound...and tired!

On the way to San Demetrio Kristina and I decided we would take it easy because of the exhaustion from traveling so much. However, once entering town and meeting the other kids in our program we decided it wouldn't hurt to enjoy some nice vino!

What did we learn on our first day traveling on a bus throughout Italy?
1) We really should have studied more italian before traveling here by ourselves...
2) the people of Rome think americans are how you say...stupid? Our cab driver actually asked if we knew what the Colosseum is...
3) no one speaks english on the buses in Italy
4) no such thing as iced coffee here only coffee flavored slushies that do not satisfy those of us who are in need of a medium dunkin donuts hazelnut ice coffee after the longest day or her life...
5) no matter how tired and jetlag you are Italy will always look beautiful when driving through
6) the people on this trip are going to be a good time especially when you add vino into the mix

The second day in San Demetrio, Kristina, our new friend Tali and I decided to explore the town. We walked up and down so many stone walkways i thought my calves were going to fall off!
The town we are in is much smaller then I imagined but something about that makes it much more charming and enjoyable for me.
Everyone in town knows each other and especially knows that we are very American. Did I mention less than 50% of the town speaks English?
Every move we make we are being watched and after 4 days it has become actually normal. It will be weird to walk down the streets of Maryland without being stared at...

What did we learn on the second day?
1) Everything closes at 2...
2) Italians don't work on Mondays so they get hammered on Sundays
3) Italian women do not drink or go into a bar without a man accompanying them
4) Italian men will almost always ask American girls to go on a walk through the town at night
5) The lasagna here melts in your mouth...bet Garfield never had lasagna that good!
6) stray cats and dogs everywhere (mom don't come to this town, Tim can't handle anymore dogs!)
7) Italian women do not wear anything but jeans so seeing us in jean shorts is a whole new world to the people of San demetrio

The next day (Monday) we had our first day of classes. Kristina and I are signed up for Italian 101 and Italian 315 (cinema class). We start at 830 AM on the dot and are taught Italian by an adorable 26 year old native, Giovanni. He is from San Demetrio but studied at Boston College and is going to NYU on a scholarship in the fall. Needless to say I am in love. Italian is much more interesting to me now!

Cinema is a bit harder to get through. I do find films interesting but it is hard to focus when they are completely in Italian with subtitles. When we get out of cinema class the town has siesta so everything is closed from 1:30-2. Genius plan but not so much fun when you are starving after 6 hours of class and have limited choices. Paninos have become a staple in my everyday diet.

We made friends with atleast one bartender at the 3 pubs in town. Stefana, a beautiful bartender at our favorite spot Centralle, is one of the only people who speaks english and can provide us with our much needed Vodka tonics.
Monday night when we adventured out the local boys seemed to have become more confident in their abilities to speak to us even though they know no english....and i know limited italian!

What did we learn on our 3rd day?
1) Italian is much better then french and spanish
2) Getting up at 8 am in Italy is much easier then anywhere else
3) how to say penis in Italian...from our teacher
4) not constantly having a blackberry on you is very much a relief and not a burden
5) being called beautiful in italian over and over again can begin to sound insincere but always flattering

Needless to say so far this has been the most amazing trip of my life. I couldn't be happier and I never want to leave...just need to make sure I get better en Italiano

Unfortunately I can't go into the other days I have been here just yet because I am getting ready to go visit a church then go to a pool party! Also blogger won't let me post pictures today...apparently Italians do not believe in wi-fi.

CIAO!! till next time

Who Am I?-Ciao Everyone!

Hello world! My name is Carly, I'm a rising junior at the University of Rhode Island majoring in communications with a minor in public relations. I have always been the type to have one too many thoughts floating around in my head and never wanted to hold them in. So why not start a blog?!

A little bit about me: I'm 21 (recently turned woohoo!), super outgoing, always laughing, very sarcastic. I love fashion, music, traveling, politics, animals, my friends, my family, boys, cooking, food in general, the beach, shoes, books, snowy day
s, a nice breeze, soft blankets, beanbag chairs, cheesy love s
tories, cheetah print everything, marc jacobs everything, bright colors. I wear contacts, I'm curvy and proud (just recently proud and working on it), just recently turned healthy and workout fanatic. I love pop culture and I believe in true love and wants to find it someday.

So why, other then being way too energetic in my thoughts, do i want to start a blog? Well during the last year of school at URI my best friend, Kristina and I decided that instead of spending our summer working boring jobs in our hometowns, we wanted to travel the world! So after much research (not really we just googled some stuff), we decided to bring our wonderful personalities to the people of Italy...they don't know what they are in for!

So tomorrow at 6:00 pm we will be departing from the airport to the beautiful city of Rome then boarding a bus for 7 hours to the small town of San Demetrio Corone in the south of Italy. To say I'm excited would be the understatement of the year...I CAN'T WAIT!
So heres to good times and best friends in Italy! Hoping that we are safe and have the time of our lives! Keep checking in and hopefully within the next few days I will have an update with some beautiful pictures and wonderful stories to tell!

Arivederci!!
